Although slightly misleading, Renault has announced the price of the Fluence Z.E., which it is calling the UK’s most affordable electric car. In a sense Renault is right, as it is the most affordable mass produced 5-door family-sized electric car, but if one was feeling pedantic they would point out there are cheaper options such as the G-Wiz or even Renault’s own Twizy.
Nevertheless, the £17,850 (after the £5,000 Plug-In Car Grant is deducted) does come well equipped, with 16” alloys, auto lights and wipers, climate control, cruise control, ecoMeter, and Carminat TomTom smart satellite navigation. The 95 horsepower motor has a range of up to 115 miles, and has charging sockets on both front wings just in case the lead won’t quite reach.
The car is available to reserve online now for a non-refundable £20 at www.renault-ze.com. The website will also give registered visitors access to exclusive, electric mobility-related content, services and applications, and if you really feel the need you can keep in touch with Andy Heiron, Renault UK’s Head of Electric Vehicle Programme, by following @electricandy on Twitter. But obviously not while driving.
